During the Christmas period break-ins and thefts usually increase and homes can be devastated by the after-effects of these crimes. Christmas is a time where we are usually out visiting friends and family on the weekends and nights after work, but while we are out having a good time our homes are left vulnerable.
So that you don’t fall victim to criminals this Christmas, The Doors Group have come up with a few tips that you can follow to help you keep your home safe and secure!
1. Make it look like you are home
When you are out doing your Christmas rounds, try leaving lights on around your home and turn on a TV or radio. This is the oldest trick in the book when it comes to deterring unwanted guests because it does work as any burglars may be tricked into thinking your home.
2. Lock all windows and doors
Your homes windows are doors are your first line of defence against burglars, that’s why you should always ensure that they are securely locked and working correctly. If your windows and doors are damaged then this will drastically reduce the security of your home meaning you should replace them as soon as possible.
3. Alarms or security lights
If you have any alarms, security lights or cameras then now would be a perfect time to check that they are working correctly. These security features can also be off-putting to any criminals as they know that their chances of getting caught are higher.
4. Hide Valuables
When you leave your home you should put any valuables out of sight and hide any presents, as having them on show may encourage criminals to target your home and steal your belongings.
We hope these few tips are helpful and will help keep your home secure and safe over Christmas!
